Our team began the 2026 field season at the Gault Nature Reserve in late April during the peak of the spring freshet. This is a time when the catchment is extremely wet due to the snowmelt. The trails were very muddy so we had to be very careful about where to step!
Notre équipe a entamé la campagne de terrain 2026 à la réserve naturelle Gault fin avril, au plus fort de la fonte printanière. C’est une période où le bassin versant est extrêmement humide en raison de la fonte des neiges. Les sentiers étaient très boueux et nous devions faire très attention à là où nous mettions les pieds !

During the freshet, there is a rapid increase of flow in rivers and streams as they are fed by snowmelt. At Gault, we saw some the highest water levels in the West Creek of the last two years.
Pendant la dégel, le débit des rivières et des ruisseaux augmente rapidement car alimenté par l’eau de fonte. À Gault, nous avons observé l’un des niveaux d’eau les plus élevés des deux dernières années.

Overall, the forest was beautiful on this fresh spring day, with almost all the snow gone!
En général, la forêt était magnifique en cette fraîche journée de printemps, la neige ayant presque entièrement fondu !
