On October 4th, members of the ECOHYDROS group went to the Gault Nature Reserve to lead our workshop “Become Hydro-Detectives”. Our workshop was one of several activities offered at the Biodiversity Festival, which is an open house day at Gault where visitors can explore the Reserve’s biodiversity and learn from experts about scientific projects through informational booths along the trails and guided tours of research facilities. Presented with a mystery water sample from a river in Quebec, children (and a few parents!) in our workshop were able to conduct real tests that hydrologists perform to determine which river their sample belonged to. Surrounded by the bright colours of Mont Saint-Hilaire’s fall foliage, our group had a great day recruiting enthusiastic participants, as well as exploring the other booths along Gault’s trails.
This workshop was first run at the EURÊKA!! Festival this past May, and members of the lab were excited to be able to lead the activity for a new group of budding hydrologists.

Le 4 octobre, quelques membres de l’équipe ÉCOHYDROS sont allés à la Réserve Naturelle Gault pour mener notre atelier “Devenez hydro-détectives”. Cet atelier était une activité parmi plusieurs offertes au Festival de biodiversité, une journée ouverte à la Réserve Naturelle Gault permettant aux visiteurs d’explorer la biodiversité de la Réserve et d’en apprendre plus sur des projets de recherche à plusieurs kiosques le long des sentiers ou pendant des visites guidées des installations de recherche. Dans notre atelier, des enfants (et quelques parents curieux !) ont effectué plusieurs tests hydrologiques pour identifier de quelle rivière leur échantillon mystère provenait. Entouré par les couleurs magnifiques des arbres du Mont Saint-Hilaire, notre groupe s’est bien amusé en recrutant des participants et en enquêtant les autres kiosques sur les sentiers.
Cet atelier a été originalement organisé et mené au festival EURÊKA! ce mois de mai dernier, et nos membres étaient heureux de pouvoir organiser cette activité pour un nouveau groupe de futurs hydrologues en formation !
